Single-mode VCSEL Chip

Atomic optical instruments have established the status of high-precision estimation in many measurement fields, such as atomic frequency standard, atomic magnetometer, and atomic inertial system given the progress of atomic optical technology. In recent years, researchers have developed chip-level atomic sensors, further developed them to the direction of low-power consumption and miniaturization, and expanded the application of atomic optical devices in aerospace, national defense, and civil fields.

The development of chip-level atomic sensor devices mainly benefits from two core technologies: micro semiconductor laser technology represented by Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser and micro fabrication technology of atomic sensor based on MEMS technology. Vertical-cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) have narrow linewidth, low power consumption, modulability, and single-mode and single-polarization operation. Thus, they have become the core components of chip-level atomic optical devices. The United States and Europe have formulated special research plans to vigorously support the development of chip-level atomic sensors and their core components, dedicated VCSEL light sources, such as Chip-scale Atomic Clock (CSAC) of DARPA and MEMS Atomic Clocks for Timing, Frequency Control and Communications (MAC-TFC).

Our single-mode VCSEL has the advantages of wide operating temperature range, high wavelength and polarization stability, and is an ideal laser source for atomic optical sensors. According to different power and operating temperature, our products are divided into 0.1/0.5/1 mW and other series. The output power of our single-mode VCSEL in the laboratory pre-research stage is close to 5 mW.
